The Deputy General Secretary of the largest opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Boamah Otokunor has described Dr. Bawumia as a comedian and a jocular vice President who cannot be compared to Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman.
During a phone-in interview on the Egyaso Gyaso Show hosted by Afua Pokua aka Vim Lady on Okay FM, the renowned Economic expert explicitly stated that Ghana does not need a talkative and a jocular vice president since government is a serious business.
“If comedy was the yardstick for selecting a vice president, we would have gone in for Lil Win to be our running mate and that is not what we need. We don’t need a talkative and jocular vice president. Government is a serious business and we need a serious minded person.” He stated.
He added, if Dr. Bawumia had been used as the yardstick for selecting a Vice Presidential candidate for the NDC ahead of the 2020 polls, he would have resigned as the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC.
He said “This is a bet I threw ahead of the selection of President Mahama’s Running mate. I stated that should Bawumia be a measuring rod for which we choose our vice presidential candidate, I will resign as the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC. “
The NDC has broken the glass ceiling by becoming the first among the two largest political parties in Ghana to choose a female vice presidential candidate.
