Monkey Pox has been confirmed to have hit Nigeria, affecting at least 5 People in Lagos, River and Akwa Ibom states.
According to the Nigeria Center Of Disease Control(NCDC), 5 new cases of monkey Pox disease are being recorded after two years since the disease first hit the country.
Since the reappearance of the disease, Lagos has recorded 5 cases, Rivers 2, Akwa Ibom 3, Zamfra 1, Delta 1, Imo 2 and The Federal Capital Territory 1.
Monkey Pox is a viral disease similar to human smallpox which was initially discovered in 1970 in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
It is mostly transmitted to people from wild animals such as rodents and primates.
There has not been any specific treatment or vaccination available, although prior smallpox vaccination has been effective in preventing monkey Pox.
