Abdul Haye Yartey, president of the Ghana Bodybuilding and Fitness Association (GBFA) has presented assorted items and cash to the Ghana Blind Sports Association (GBSA) at a ceremony at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday.
The items which included sports equipment, toiletries and provisions were received by the president of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) president, Ben Nunoo Mensah, who handed them over to Mr. Eric Kissi, president of the Ghana Blind Sports Association.
Making the presentation, Abdul Haye Yartey who is also the CEO of Cheetah FC, a popular football club based in Accra said the blind sports men are Ghanaians and they should be supported to also compete and win laurels for the nation.
Ben Nunoo Mensah thanked Yartey for his example and urged other philanthropists to support the disabled sports men and women.
Mr. Eric Kissi who was very happy praised Yartey and promised that as they prepare to go to Nigeria and Morocco for the Olympic qualifiers, they will win and represent Ghana at the biggest sports festival in Japan next year.
He said they have several events, however they are concentrating on where they have comparative advantage and where they can win medals.
Madam Gloria Commodore, executive director of Women In Sports Association (WISA) who was at the presentation promised to honour some blind sports women at the next WISA Awards to motivate them.
Philip Otuo, an executive member of the Ghana National Paralympic Committee commended the media who have been supporting the disabled sports associations.
